Editorial Analysis by insetgalusnews Based on Police Statements and Evidence

TAJUK RENCANA | insetgalusnews.com  | The arrest of AS, the prime suspect in the brutal killing of five people in Uning Sigugur Village, Babul Rahmah Subdistrict, Aceh Tenggara, on Monday night (June 23, 2025) has revealed new facts. His eight-day flight was not a spontaneous escape. The paths he took and the supplies he carried indicate a well-planned getaway.

The editorial team at insetgalusnews.com conducted an investigation based on police statements, geographical analysis of the area, and the evidence seized. The findings strongly suggest that AS knew the terrain and had a survival strategy for the jungle. Beyond mere physical endurance, the suspect appeared adept at exploiting situations — avoiding digital traces and steering clear of areas under surveillance.

A Planned and Structured Escape Route

From the crime scene, AS did not head directly toward settlements. Instead, he moved through cornfields and climbed into the mountainous area of Uning Sigugur. From there, he crossed Rambung Tubung, Kuta Lang-Lang, and Meranti — areas known for their difficult terrain and poor communication signals.

On the first night, he stayed in a hut in a local oil palm plantation. On the second day, he moved before dawn, passing through rubber and oil palm estates, and stayed in a cocoa farm hut in Tui Jongkat until late afternoon.

During the third and fourth days, AS continued navigating mountains and cornfields near Tui Jongkat. On the fifth and sixth days, he advanced toward Titi Mas and Jamur Damar mountains – extreme locations bordering a conservation forest.

On the seventh day, AS entered the Salim Pinim mountain area, moving from hut to hut to minimize contact with locals and relying entirely on natural resources and his own supplies.

The eighth day marked a turning point. He descended into Tenembak Alas Village, bought food at a small shop, and was arrested less than an hour later as he walked toward his uncle’s house.

Evidence Points to a Survival Plan

Police seized more than 20 items as evidence – not mere belongings, but signs of careful preparation:

  • A machete, suspected to have been used in the massacre

  • Two mobile phones (Vivo Y15S and a Samsung flip phone), wrapped in black tape, likely to avoid tracking

  • A utility knife, sharpening stone, homemade wooden slingshot – survival and self-defense tools

  • A prayer mat, salt, water bottles, jerry can, matches, and a kerosene lamp – indicators of readiness for days without outside contact

  • A burlap sack modified into a backpack – a clear sign the escape was premeditated

The condition of these items shows that AS’s escape relied not only on instinct but also on experience surviving in the wild. Many believe he was familiar with jungle life or had previous work experience in plantations or conservation areas.

Motive Remains Unclear, Family Ties Provide Early Clues

Aceh Tenggara Police Chief AKBP Yulhendri confirmed that the victims and suspect were blood relatives. “Some of the victims were the suspect’s nephews and the biological sibling of his mother,” he stated. However, the exact motive is still under investigation.

Was AS under psychological pressure? Was there a dispute over inheritance, personal vendetta, or hidden social tensions? Investigators have not disclosed details, but the motive remains key to understanding why such a horrific act was committed against his own family.

Severe Penalties Await

AS now faces charges under Article 340 of the Indonesian Penal Code on premeditated murder and/or Article 80 Paragraph (3) of the Child Protection Act. The maximum penalties are death, life imprisonment, or 20 years in prison.

“The joint team arrested the suspect without significant resistance. At the time, he was carrying most of the evidence,” the Police Chief said during a press conference on Tuesday (June 24).

Unanswered Questions

While AS’s arrest ends his flight, many questions remain:

  • Did he really act entirely alone?

  • Why did he carry such complete survival gear?

  • Was he preparing for another scenario if he hadn’t been captured that day?

The insetgalusnews.com investigative team continues to gather information from family members, residents along his escape route, and forensic psychology experts to untangle the suspect’s motives and mindset. Clearly, this tragedy is more than just a criminal act. It is a dark tale of violence, family ties, and human endurance in the wilderness.
